The unique feature of SSN Institutions is the scholarships awarded to students. SSN offers
attractive scholarships to encourage merit and to make
education accessible to students of all economic strata. The
Institution has initiated a thriving tradition of over 400
scholarships offered every year to meritorious and deserving
Scholarships worth Rs 4 crores were recently
distributed to 400 students of SSN Institutions, based on the academic performance,
sports achievement and economic needs.
Shri Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, presented the prestigious annual SSN scholarships to meritorious students. Presenting the scholarships, Shri Kapil Sibal stressed on the need for education for all and said that institutions of excellence such as SSN are much needed in the country.
Shri K Ponmudy, Minister for Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu was the guest of honor. He was pleased to meet the students and faculty at SSN and see the dramatic transformation the strong willed scholars have undergone to come at par with the urban counterparts at the function.
The function was attended by several Government officials, industry and academia. R Srinivasan, Chairman, SSN Institutions (Director & CEO, Redington and globally renowned entrepreneur), Shiv Nadar, Founder HCL, and Chairman, The Shiv Nadar Foundation and Kala Vijayakumar, President, SSN Institutions were also present.
The scholarship scheme was instituted in 1999. Since its inception ~ Rs.30 Crore (~$7Mn) worth of scholarships have been disbursed to ~3000 deserving students, many from extremely challenged backgrounds. SSN institution aims to induct and transform meritorious rural students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them not just free, world class education, but also mentoring and nurturance - allowing them to transcend the disadvantages they face and compete with their urban counterparts.
The scholarships scheme was instituted in 1999.
Till date, scholarships amounting to a total of Rs. 20 crore
have been disbursed to 1,365 students.
A total of 114 students have received the scholarship on a merit
basis; 56 on merit-cum means scholarships; 21 on sports
scholarships; seven students received benefit under TVSE-HCL
Friendship Scholarships; two students were awarded the
Walk-in-Walk-out scholarships and one student the Special
Also, 28 students received scholarships for the SSN School of
Advanced Software Engineering (SSN SASE) Master's of Science in
Information Technology (MSIT) course.
The scholarship offers a waiver of tuition fees, free hostel
stay and boarding/ grant towards living expenses and an
allowance for books.
Following are the list of scholarships offered by SSN Institutions
Merit Scholarship :
Scholarships are awarded to meritorious students, based on the
academic performance at the qualifying examinations for freshers,
and in the case of senior students, the performance during the
previous year. The scholarship offers a waiver of tuition fees,
free hostel stay and boarding/grant towards living expenses and
an allowance for books. All the UG and PG in Engineering, MBA
and MCA programs at the Institution are covered under the
Merit-cum-Means Scholarship :
Every academic year, several scholarships are awarded on the
criteria of merit-cum-means. The scholarship offers a waiver of
tuition fee, free hostel stay and boarding/grant towards living
expenses and an allowance for books. Academic performance and
demonstrated economic need are the key criteria for this
Waiver of Tuition Fee :
First year students of the college who secure the highest marks
in the Plus Two examinations have their entire tuition fee
waived for the first academic year. Similarly, senior students
are offered scholarships on the basis of their previous year's
Walk-in-Walk-out Scholarships :
The top ten rank holders of any State or Central Board
Examination at the Plus Two or equivalent level are entitled to
pursue the B.E. / B.Tech. degree at SSN College of Engineering
absolutely free of cost.
Scholarships for Rural Students:
This is a unique feature in the overall scholarship program at SSN. Twenty five toppers from rural Government schools are selected for free education at the UG level every year. This is a small step taken by SSN to bridge the urban-rural divide in the country. These students also participate in a specially designed bridge-program prior to start of the regular academic session to equip them face the rigors of engineering education.
Post Graduate Scholarships:
In order to promote research and encourage meritorious students to pursue post-graduate studies, scholarships are awarded to 50% of the students admitted to the PG programs in Engineering.
Sports Scholarship :
Sports scholarships are awarded to students with an outstanding
record in sports. Typically, students who have represented the
State at National level competitions conducted by accredited
Sports Boards are also eligible for the same.
